Location

So where the heck is this place? You can look for a long time to finally get an idea as to where Yangshuo is, at least if you have not bought a travel book for China yet. Let us try to make it simple for those of you too poor or lazy to buy a LP, Let's Go, or your country's favorite guide book. This city is a small city of about 30,000 people (but when you are here you will swear there are no more than about 10,000). The nearest city is a place called Guilin (often pronounced GuAlin, with a long "A" sound, as in the American English "favor", for you native English speakers), a much larger city with tall buildings, shopping, expensive hotels and the works. Guilin is about 1 -- 1.5 hours away (about 60 km, or 38 miles for those of us who have a hard time understanding what the heck a km is) to the north, depending on how many times your bus stops in between. And Yangshuo is about 1000 km from HK. Both of these places are in the the province of Guangxi, the capital of which is Nanning.
